The Benedictine men’s Golf team finished up their season this week. The Eagles finished 5th in conference and was highlighted by senior James Keck who earned all conference honors and finished in the top 10 and Ryan Gilbert who finished 17th; James is also the Editor-in-Chief of The Candor

“It was great to be able to play solid enough to sneak into the top 10 and to be a part of the all conference team,” said James Keck. “These last four years have been great and I am happy to have finished strong.”

Keck shot 79 and 78 respectfully in his first two rounds. He backed that up with an 82 in round 3 and after day three found himself in 11th entering the final day needing a solid round to put him into the Top 10. He would shoot a final round score of 80 highlighted by 4 birdied on the scorecard to put him into the Top 10. Gilbert shot his best round of the season in round two with a 78. A 81 in the last round gave him a top 20 finish.

“I did not play my best golf at all down the stretch but on 18 when Coach Janczak said I had a 3 shot lead from 11th I really took in my final hole of college golf and was able to do just enough,” said Keck.

Aurora won the overall tournament. The Spartans won by an astounding 63 strokes to take home the NACC championship. Jack Vercautren won the overall individual tournament. Vercautren shot even throughout the tournament highlighted by a 67 in round two and won by 3 strokes. He beat out fellow teammates Scott Boyajian and Braeden Duncan to win the individual championship.

“It was great to watch a few guys this year start to figure it out,” said Keck “I am excited for their growth and for the future of the program.”

The Eagles look to build on this momentum heading into the new season this fall.
