Business student, Mahnoor Fatani, hosted an event on March 21 in Goodwin Lobby.

The event allowed students to present and promote their businesses to the campus community. The meeting quickly became a recurring event at Benedictine, and was held for the first time in the Fall 2023 semester. Fatani, who came up with the idea in August 2023, worked to plan and create the event both semesters.

“Having businesses as students is such a cool thing to have, and what better way to advertise than to showcase to the entire student body?” Fatani said. “I really wanted to give the student entrepreneurs a platform where they could network with other people.”

At the event, students Hiba Siddiqui and Sahani Ramineni represented SAHHI, Inc., which works to call attention among universities to the cardiovascular risks faced by members of the South Asian community. “It was lovely to engage with business-minded and non-business minded individuals, and talk about their potential contributions to SAHHI,” said Hiba Siddiqui.

“[The group] provides valuable networking opportunities and insights into the industry, and also gives students a chance to share their passions,” said Ramineni.

Amtul Siddiqui, a biology major, represented her business, Amtul’s Kitchen, at the event. “I’ve been baking since the second grade,” Siddiqui said. “It started off as baking for my family and loved ones, then for neighbors and family events.”

Shane Sedlock, a junior in entrepreneurship, developed the idea for Alterra, a company currently engineering a prototype sports car, before he was in high school. “[The event] gave us a good opportunity to see the kind of market we are in, and what we need to change to better meet the market,” Sedlock said.

Fatani was happy to hear positive reviews from the students. “The most rewarding part of this event was definitely hearing the student entrepreneurs say that they were grateful to get the opportunity to network with other people,” Fatani said. “Having a platform where students can display their businesses and give others the opportunity to gain from their insights is invaluable.”
