The Candor Wins Four Awards during College Press Contest

The Candor, the student media of Benedictine University, was recently recognized by the Illinois College Press Association contest for 2022. The Candor was awarded 1st place in Sports News Story and Sports Game Story, 2nd in Sports Game Story, and 3rd in In-Depth Reporting.

James Keck won 1st place in Sports Game Story for his story, “Benedictine Football Defeats Lakeland University,” and Kaitlyn Estopare won 1st place in Sports News Story for her story, “Basketball Coach Uses N-Word During Practice.”

James Keck also earned 2nd place in Sports Game Story for his story, “Holliday and the Eagles Can’t Be Stopped.” And finally, Kaitlyn Estopare, Jesus Cortez, and Dominic Fucile earned 3rd in In-Depth Reporting for their series: “BenU Professor Uses Racial Slurs in Class.”

“The Candor competes against schools twice our size, so I’m proud that the ICPA recognized our strong news and sports reporting from last year,” said Chris Birks, the advisor for The Candor.

The Candor will continue to strive for excellence in reporting on issues that matter to the university community.
