You’ve probably been told to eat anywhere between four and six servings of fruits and vegetables each day, drink plenty of water, and hopefully you’ve seen the MyPlate figure at least once.

So, what does it mean to have a “well-round” or “balanced” diet? Simply put, the term “well-rounded” or “balanced” diet refers to intake that meets your nutritional needs. It’s about having meals that include protein, grains/carbs, fruits and vegetables and some sort of dairy/calcium rich item.

MyPlate visualizes what we, as nutrition/health-oriented professionals, mean by “well-rounded” and/or “balanced” and is a simple example of how you can compose your plate to ensure you’re set up to meet your own nutritional needs.
