I am a freshman here at Benedictine, and this is the first time I have been away from my family for an extended amount of time. I am becoming really homesick, and I don’t know how to cope with it. What would you recommend doing to go about this feeling that I have, and make sure I keep my focus on doing well this school year?
The homesick student
Dear homesick student,
When I first left my nest for an extended period of time, it was very difficult for me to work through as well, but it’s normal to feel this way! I would recommend taking 30 minutes to an hour every other day and having a zoom call or even talking to them on the phone. Check in with your friends and family and see how they are doing, and how life is going for them! Talk to them about what you enjoy about being a resident. Keeping in touch with loved ones is crucial and can give you that extra motivation this school year!
Keep on soaring,
