Nate Kirberg and James Keck earned Academic All-American plaques for their seasons and grades for the previous year on Sunday.

This award is given to student-athletes who average a score of 79.0 or lower through the fall and the spring combined, and have a GPA of 3.2 or higher. This award is also only given to sophomores or upperclassmen.

In Coach Frank Janczak’s 17 years in charge of the men’s golf program, Kirberg and Keck are the second and third recipients of this award. Kirberg is now a 3-time recipient of the award, and Keck was awarded this award in his first year of being eligible.

“This award meant a lot to me because it showed not only my on-course abilities but my abilities in the classroom as well,” said Keck.

With the season underway, Kirberg and Keck aim to receive the same award next year.

“Nate is off to a great start to the season, and I hope to pick my game up and get back to playing the golf I know I am capable of,” said Keck.

The men’s golf team will travel to Oakbrook Golf Club this Thursday to play in the Elmhurst Invitational.
