Super Bowl Sunday is finally here. The Buccaneers are facing the Chiefs in one of the most anticipated games in recent memory. On a poll released by The Candor on Thursday, 70% of respondents think the Chiefs will repeat as champions.

“This is an incredible matchup, Brady against Mahomes.” Senior football fan Tom Samaras said. “Grab your popcorn and find a comfortable seat on the couch. It’s going to be a good one!”

43-year old quarterback, Tom Brady, is making his 10th appearance in the Super Bowl and first appearance with the Buccaneers. He has won six rings with the Patriots, which is the most all-time by any player. Some freshmen at Benedictine were not born yet when Brady won his first championship on February 3, 2002.

The quarterback on the Chiefs end is also very impressive. 2020 Super Bowl Champion Patrick Mahomes already has an MVP and a Super Bowl MVP. Mahomes is only 25. He has thrown for the most TD passes in NFL history through his 46 career games.

As sports fans debate Lebron vs. Jordan, they will also debate Mahomes vs. Brady. Lebron and Jordan never played in an NBA game. Mahomes and Brady have faced off four previous times, with each of them winning twice. Mahomes beat Brady earlier this season and Brady won when they met in the 2019 AFC Championship game.

If Brady wins this time, it might cement his legacy over Mahomes. It would bring Brady’s total championships to 7 and he would have beaten Mahomes in the prime of his career on the biggest stage. For Mahomes to pass Brady after a loss, he would have to win 8 Super Bowls, which would be a daunting task.

But as much as the focus will be on the Quarterbacks, the teams will have an impact on the game. The Chiefs had seven players named to the Pro Bowl this season, including wide receiver Tyreek Hill and tight end Travis Kelce. That duo combined 26 receiving touchdowns this regular season, which was as many as the entire Chicago Bears roster had.

The Chiefs will be without one of their Pro Bowlers, as offensive tackle Eric Fisher tore his Achilles last game. This may be problematic, as the Buccaneers finished 4th in the NFL with 48 total sacks. Jason Piere-Paul led the team with 9.5 sacks while Devon White had 9 this season. White had the same amount of sacks as Bears star Khalil Mack.

The Buccaneers shut down 2021 MVP Aaron Rodgers in the NFC Championship game. Rodgers threw two interceptions in the game and the Packers only scored 10 points. For the Buccaneers to win, they must contain Mahomes like they did with Rodgers.

During the Super Bowl, much more transpires than the actual game. The commercials, halftime show and sports betting causes the Super Bowl to become the most watched broadcast of the year. Last year’s Super Bowl had 102 million viewers.

“The commercials are my favorite part besides the game.” Junior Chase Olson said. “Insurance and snacks commercials are the best ones. They always bring out the laughs.”

In terms of sports betting, everything is on the table. From the coin toss, to what color the Gatorade bath will be, length of the national anthem and what company will have the first commercial, every part of the game can be wagered on. There is even a bet for what type of mask Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid will be wearing.

A lot has changed in the world since the last Super Bowl. But despite having 30,000 cutouts in the stands, the best parts of the Super Bowl are here to stay. Brady, Mahomes, Buffalo wings and Geico commercials. What more could you ask for? It is going to be a great one.
