In a season full of unpredictability, the playoffs proved to be more of the same. The Los Angeles Dodgers will be battling the underdog Tampa Bay Rays to take home all the glory.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were the favorite in the National League all along. Many thought they would cruise to the World Series, but they faced roadblocks along the way. Against the Atlanta Braves, they found themselves down in the series 3-1. Despite this still came back to reach the World Series by winning close games down the stretch. The Dodgers won Game 7 by one run.
The Rays’ appearance in the World Series surprised many. They have had a tough road throughout the playoffs. They beat the heavily favorited New York Yankees in a thrilling series. In fact, the Yankees have more World Series titles than years the Rays have been an MLB franchise. In the ALCS, the Rays won against the Houston Astros. The Astros have had a lot recent success, including a World Series victory in 2017.
Both the Dodgers and Rays have been fueled by strong hitting. Rays rookie outfielder Randy Arozarena has hit seven home runs this postseason. The Dodgers offense is full of all-stars and they scored 15 runs in Game 3 of the NLCS.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the World Series will be played at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. This is the first of 116 World Series’ that will be played at a neutral site.
This is a classic David vs. Goliath matchup. The Dodgers have the 2nd highest payroll in baseball and the Rays are bottom feeders at 28th. Despite the payroll gap, this will be an ultracompetitive series. The Dodgers are seeking their seventh World Series and Tampa Bay is looking to get their first in franchise history. If there is a World Series to watch, this is it!
