The father of a Sarah Lawrence College student is facing charges for sexually, physically, and mentally abusing several of her peers and forcing them into doing sex trade work for him. Lawrence Ray moved into his daughter’s dorm when she attended the college 10 years ago and began “therapy” sessions with her dorm mates. After getting to know the students’ most intimate details, he began blackmailing them and coercing them to admit to crimes they did not commit. For nearly a decade, Ray continued to force himself upon his victims and has reportedly received more than $200,000 from his blackmail of the victims and forced prostitution. Ray was arrested this past Tuesday in New York. US attorney Geoffrey Berman released a statement stating “When he was arrested, one of his daughter’s roommates and one of the female victims in the indictment were in the residence at the time,” Sarah Lawrence College stated that they had no previous knowledge of the ongoing incidents.

24 year old Conor Climo of Las Vegas, Nevada pleaded guilty to acts of terrorism and hate
crimes against a gay bar and a synagogue this past Monday. Climo also confessed to hiring a homeless person to scout the areas he was planning on attacking so as not to draw any attention to himself. Climo who is a self-proclaimed white supremacist announced was arrested back in August of 2019 but only recently was placed in front of a judge to take a plea deal. He had been the talk of the town several years ago as well when he was found patrolling his neighborhood with a rifle with the intention to attack a McDonald’s restaurant. Law enforcement uncovered a journal that contained several of his suicide missions as well as sketches to plan out his possible attacks. “HIs journal discusses his disdain for people of the Jewish religion, which appears to be driven by his lack of money and an anti-Semitic trope that people of the Jewish religion control money,” stated a court order. With his prosecution, the DoJ plans to continue their Early Engagement program to stop mass shootings before they happen.

The Oscars are in the spotlight this week but not for the typical reasons. They are being called out for rejecting a postpartum ad for being too “graphic” according to USA today*. The ad, which follows the routine of a mother postpartum, is in no way violent, religious, or gruesome and only depicts what the actual struggles of a mother are in her first few months after pregnancy. The new mother is woken by the cries of her baby, and she heads to the bathroom to change out her hospital acquired mesh underwear and then tends to her crying baby. The ad was directed by Frida Mom, a company that prepares new mothers for labor and delivery as well as their journey postpartum. In a statement via Instagram**, they stated “The ad you’re about to watch was rejected by ABC & the Oscars from airing during this year’s award show. It’s not ‘violent, political’ or sexual in nature. Our ad is not ‘religious or lewd’ and does not portray ‘guns or ammunition.’ ‘Feminine hygiene & hemorrhoid relief’ are also banned subjects.” The new mother is woken by the cries of her baby, and she heads to the bathroom to change out her hospital acquired mesh underwear and then tends to her crying baby. “It’s just a new mom, home with her baby and her new body for the first time,” Frida Mom continued. “Yet it was rejected. And we wonder why new moms feel unprepared.” Frida Mom continued. Several people have spoken up against the issue and are nodding their heads in support. Find the ad attached below in the Instagram link.
