Bears’ defensive linebacker, Khalil Mack, was out this past week against the New York Jets with an ankle injury he suffered against the Miami Dolphins. Although the Bears were able to beat the Jets this past week, Mack’s presence was missed. They were able to contain a troubled Jet’s offense, but they will need Mack back if the Bears want to stay in first.
The Bears defense was able to hold Jets Quarterback, Sam Darnold, to a 75.8 passer rating this past week, but the Bears only had one sack in the game.
The Bears have noted that they will remain cautious with Mack as they just signed him to a $90 million dollar contract this offseason. Although injuries are never a good thing, Mack’s injury seems to have come at a good time in the season. The Bears will take on another sub-par offense in the Buffalo Bills next week.
Outside linebacker Aaron Lynch called Mack a fighter, in a story for the Chicago Sun-Times. The Bears are not the same team without Mack, but they hope to get him back at full-health soon; holding down first place in the NFC North.
Despite Mack being out, the Bears have been a pleasant surprise this season. Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has shown flashes of elite potential. Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen have been a nice compliment as well at running back. The Bears hope to keep their division lead and improve to 5-3 on the season when they face the Bills this Sunday.
