The Benedictine Football team began their first training camp under new Head Coach Josiah Sears on August 13th. Over the past two weeks, the football team has learned the new structure that Coach Sears wants from them along with the practices and meetings of a typical summer camp.
“It all starts with building good men both on and off the field,” Coach Sears said, “We want our players to become men of excellence and reflect the hard work and passion we have for our team, our school and our community.”
The team has adopted the motto, Build the Wall, to reflect the idea of creating a new foundation as well as building lasting relationships on the team. With this the team believes it can reach even greater levels than it has in the past.
“The expectations for our team are to grow and improve one day at a time,” Junior Defensive Lineman and Team Captain Danny Drummond said, “I think it is important to pride yourself on continuous improvement and strive to be the best you can be every day.”
The Eagles hope that this growth and foundation will help them to continuously build on past successes. The Eagles were voted to finish second in the NACC in the conference preseason rankings and hope that a successful scrimmage against North Central College will drive the momentum they need to start the season.
“We have to get everyone on the same page,” Junior Center Frank Vosicky said, “There is a new accountability for each player and when we all understand that, we can accomplish a lot.”
The Eagles start the regular season on the road against neighboring Wheaton College who ranks 8th in the D3 National Football Rankings. The game will take place at 1 P.M. at Wheaton College on Saturday.
