This past Sunday, April 17, Baseball competed against Aurora University in a conference double header. The two games resulted in a split after Benedictine won the first game 3-2 and Aurora taking the win in the second game with a score of 3-5.

To this point in the season, Benedictine’s baseball has split five of the six conference doubleheaders.

In the first game, after Aurora tallied a pair of runs in the second inning, taking an early lead, Benedictine was able to come in from behind in the opener, tying the game in the eighth and winning the contest in the final inning.

“It was a great team win against a good Aurora team,” said junior Joe Palasiewicz. “I had a great defense behind me and everyone in the dugout was energized, which ultimately translated into some big runs late in the game.”

Junior Tanner Kiser connected with a one-out homer in the top of the eighth to bring Benedictine within a run. With two outs, junior Dom MeMicco singled a home in a tying run. Kiser singled a home with the winning run after senior Justin Montalvo was hit by a pitch to open the frame.

The second game was dominated by Aurora University who won with a score of 3-5, but produced a lot of early offense from both teams. Aurora scored twice in the opening inning only to be matched with a tie from Benedictine.

Aurora ended up scoring two more runs in the third, putting them in the lead. Both teams then scored again in the eighth to account for the final score.
Sophomore Ivan Guzman tossed a complete game in the second contest, striking out five in a career best eight innings.

“I thought we played will, we just weren’t able to piece together important hits when we needed it,” said Guzman. “Tough loss but we will bounce back.”

Benedictine is up to face Dominican University at home on Friday, April 23 at 3:00 p.m.
