A Loss for Men’s Lacrosse

Men’s Lacrosse Loses to Concordia Wisconsin University

by Elana Garay

Men’s lacrosse lost a close game to Concordia Wisconsin University (CWU) this past Saturday afternoon at a home game while playing through winter-like weather.

“The difference between the two teams today was that CWU made the most of their opportunities and we didn’t. We certainly generated enough shots to win the game. We simply could not find a way to put them in the back of the net. That being said, the defense took a significant step forward with one of their more complete games of the season. Overall, this team is starting to figure out their identity. I expect our level of play to continue to improve in the coming weeks,” said head coach Guy Bourdon.

CWYU took an immediate advantage in the first quarter by scoring the first three points. Benedictine managed to score one point before the end of the first quarter scored by Matthew Johnson with the assist of sophomore Tony DePinto. Freshman Dell Hune scored the single point made during the second quarter. CWU scored the first point in the third quarter.

Benedictine followed with another point scored by Johnson with the assist of DePinto. CWU scored two more points before the third quarter ended. Sophomore Corbin Gett scored a point with the assist from Johnson then followed about two minutes later, another point from Hune. Benedictine was closing into their opponent during the last quarter.

CWU scored their final point and then Benedictine followed with another point by Johnson. Another two points from Benedictine were not completed by the end of the fourth quarter. The final score came to 7-6.

“It’s always a tough battle with Concordia Wisconsin. They had a strong game plan and we did not execute perfectly offensively. Our defense prepared well and kept us in it until the end. Jeff (our goalie) played well and made key saves at key times. This lost came with some positives as we buckled down for 60 minutes and fueled our fire for a possible future rematch,” said DePinto.

The upcoming game for men’s lacrosse will be against Hanover College at 4 p.m.
