Men’s basketball won this past Saturday night against Alma College. This advances Benedictine to be one of four teams to the final four. This win has become their 30 win of the season.
“We are very excited to be one of four teams left and be the first team to represent Benedictine at the Final four! We want to thank our families and the fans for the amazing support all season, we couldn’t do this without you!”, senior Adam Reynolds.
Benedictine fell behind by 3-2 at the start of the first half, until three pointers from senior Luke Johnson and junior Tahron Harvey advanced Benedictine to the lead by 8-3. Sophomore Brayden Olson scored a three pointer after a miss from Alma which furthered Benedictine’s lead ahead by 10 points,19-9. Junior Matt Chaltin scored a two pointer to complete a 17 point lead ahead of Alma by 26-9. Alma slowly shortened the lead that Benedictine had with a couple of three pointers, 31-20. Reynolds commenced a stretch the lead and another three pointer from Olson extended the lead more for Benedictine. The first half ended with the score of 44-25.
Benedictine began the second half with a three pointer from Harvey. Junior Michael Blaszczyk scored three consecutive three points to advance the lead to 66-37. Alma continued to fall behind Benedictine through the rest of the second half. Benedictine won with the score of 93-73 with the teamwork of the players.
“Shoutout to the crowd for helping us quiet the crowd and get the victory! Another shoutout to our bench mob for being the best bench in the country and always keeping the intensity up! Another great win, we are not done yet though”, said Johnson.
Men’s basketball moves on to face their next opponent, Amherst College, at Virginia this upcoming Friday at 4 p.m.
