Men’s basketball defeated Ohio Wesleyan University at a home game this past Friday night. This win progresses the team of men’s basketball to the Sectional Final in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) III Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament.
“Shoutout to the fans for supporting us so heavily! Credit to them! It was great to have a good win against adversity! A great learning experience that we will grow from!”, said senior Luke Johnson.
The beginning of the first half started with three ties until Ohio Wesleyan took the lead by a couple points. Junior Adam Reynolds gained the lead back with a two pointer that earned Benedictine a lead by one point. Points rallied between the teams until again Ohio Wesleyan took the lead. The opponent furthered the lead to as much as five points ahead from Benedictine. Senior John Dobson gained Benedictine the lead with a two pointer with about three minutes left of the first half. Benedictine had the lead up to four points ahead of Ohio Wesleyan. The first half ended with a tie of 42-42.
Ohio Wesleyan had the advantage at the beginning of the second half by five points ahead, 61-56. Junior Matt Chaltin scored a two pointer which resulted in the first tie in the second half. The opponent advanced forward by a couple points until a three pointer by Junior Shawn Soeltor which began a lead for Benedictine. The Eagles did not fall behind their opponent for the rest of the game. The second half ended with the score of 97-84.
“Ohio Wesleyan is a very talented team so we knew it would be a battle. We were down at times but we kept our composure and stayed together. It was another great team win”, said Reynolds.
