By: Elana Garay
Men’s volleyball lost to Milwaukee School of Engineering this past Sunday afternoon . This has become their second lost game in a row this past weekend. Senior Jon Mueller was recognized for Senior Day before the game started.
Benedictine began with an ace from sophomore Markus Reimer then both teams tied at four points. Benedictine quickly fell behind their opponent and lost to the score of 25-17.
There was a rally between in the beginning of the second set until MSOE moved ahead by five points. Benedictine fell behind again and lost the second set to 25-17.
“Sunday’s game against MSOE was a winnable game, it was tough to come out like we did in the first two sets and get rolled over, but I think the value lies in the fact that we were able to come back and give them a fight in the third set. Our focus this season is to learn and grow from games we drop, and I feel that we are already in the process of doing that, we’ve met as a team and we have talked through some things we need to work on”, said Mueller.
“Our focus now is getting these two wins in Michigan, then we have two important games coming up on the road against Lakeland and Dominican. We plan on getting after it these next few weeks of practice and giving these next several matches our all. When we successfully do that, we’re going to see some success again like we had in our 6-0 winning streak. We will not be derailed by this weekend and the opponents we will face soon should be worried about what we will bring to the table”, continues Mueller
Benedictine again fell behind, but freshman Kacper Mazruek made an ace along with a block from freshman Kyle VanStedum increased Benedictine’s advantage. They made the first tie in the third set with their teamwork. Again both teams rallied in points until the score ended with 30-28 with MSOE winning the last set and the game.
“MSOE was a solid team that came out ready to play understanding what it takes to play at a high level”, said head coach Daniel Buehring. “We are getting there and in process but need to learn a bit more to get these wins against the top of the conference. If we learn, improve and focus on the right things we can play at that level and that’s the goal.”
The upcoming games for men’s volleyball will be against Adrian College on March 11 at 6 p.m.and Olivet College March 12 at 1 p.m.
