Men’s basketball defeated Hardin-Simmons University last Saturday night with the score of 85-64. Benedictine is the first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) to have their men’s basketball team to make it past the first weekend at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) division III games.
“We came out and played the way we have all season. We don’t wanna change the way we play just because the stage may be different. We played our game and came out victorious”, said junior Adam Reynolds.
Benedictine fell behind by four points and quickly made a comeback with 7-4. Senior Luke Johnson added two points and Reynolds the other two points to complete the comeback. Benedictine continued forward ahead into the lead throughout the rest of the game.
Junior Michael Blaszczyk increased the lead to 16-6 with a jumper. Johnson progressed the lead with a three pointer which advanced the score to 21-8. The score for the first half ended with 38-21.
Hardin-Simmons scored an early three pointer in the second half which lowered the lead down to 42-32. Blasczyk added two points, Reynolds added three points and Johnson added another two points to help increase Benedictine’s lead to 49-33.
Benedictine increased their lead by 16 points to 25 with the teamwork of the players. In the end of the game, Benedictine had sealed in another win which results to the first game won in the NCAA division III.

Men’s basketball plays against Ohio Wisconsin University this upcoming Friday on March 11 at 7:30 p.m.
