All schools in the state of Illinois were informed on March 7, that the state FAFSA filing deadline for the Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grant will be this upcoming Wednesday, March 9. (Official Announcement): http://www.isac.org/e-library/partner-e-messages-and-newsletters/faa-e-messages/eLibrary_FAA_2016_0307.html
This announcement was a surprise for faculty, staff, and of course students.
Students can qualify for the MAP Grant by completing their FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.com. The grant can offer students as much as $4,720 in state grant funds.
Some of the requirements to receive these grants include: an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) less than 9000, being a resident in the state of the state of IL and meeting the deadline.
“Last year’s MAP awards at BenU (15-16 aid year) were almost at $5,000,000,” says Senior Financial Aid Counselor,Thaddeus Paskert, in an email.
Students are encouraged to file with estimated information and update the FAFSA later in order to meet the deadline this Wednesday. The only thing that the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) is looking for is that the student’s FAFSA is completed by the date of March 9th or earlier.
So the Financial Aid Department stresses that any student who files the completed FAFSA after this Wednesday will be ineligible for the MAP Grant.
“As of today we have 675 students have not filed. 350 of these students were in the MAP range last year,” says Paskert.
Benedictine University will be reaching out to new and returning students to encourage them to file their completed FAFSA application.
If any students have any questions about the grant or about the FAFSA application, please feel free to contact the financial aid department at (630) 829-6100.
