This past Sunday afternoon men’s basketball won the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Championship, and once again defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). The Men’s basketball team has remained undefeated throughout their season and earned 27 wins.
“We knew MSOE would come into our place ready to go so we stepped up to the challenge as we have all year. We’re happy to win the conference tournament but what we really want to do is make a run at the national championship,” said junior Adam Reynolds.
The first half began with a four point lead for MSOE. Benedictine quickly caught up and did not trail behind since then. Junior Tahron Harvey scored a two pointer that increased Benedictine’s lead ahead by 10 points.
Senior Luke Johnson scored a three pointer which furthered Benedictine in the lead by 16 points ahead with about five points left. Junior Michael Blaszczyk increased the lead by 17 with about two minutes left. The first half ended with the score of 37-24.
MSOE decreased the lead that Benedictine had over them, but Benedictine eventually extended the lead again. Senior John Dobson scored a jumper with about seven minutes left which doubled the lead to 20 points in advance. The second half ended with another victory for Benedictine and concluded with the score of 83-57.
“It’s a great feeling to have a team that worked extremely hard to win conference but to be able to accomplish that goal is much greater! We have accomplished our first two goals for the season. Onto the next one,” said Johnson.
Men’s basketball will be playing again this upcoming Friday, March 5, at 7 p.m. on campus at the Dan and Ada Rice Center.
