Upcoming 2016 Superhero Movies

It’s quite evident that superheroes have taken the world by storm over the past few years and have been the subjects of some of the highest grossing and most entertaining films of all time.

Studios don’t plan on slowing down production any time soon and Marvel even has a plan for the release of several movies set all the way through 2020. Here’s a quick look at some of the most highly anticipated superhero movies set to release in 2016.

Deadpool (February 12) – Many are excited for the on-screen portrayal of the foul-mouthed anti-hero, Deadpool. Taking a slight turn from many other Marvel movies, Deadpool has been given an R-rating so viewers can expect a shift in attitude and tone in this film.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (March 25) – Arguably the most anticipated superhero flick of 2016, DC Comic’s Batman v Superman will feature Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman on-screen together for the first time ever. Although fans continue to debate whether Ben Affleck is a suitable choice to play Batman, it’s tough not to be excited for the imminent blowout between the titular characters.

Captain America: Civil War (May 6) – Batman v Superman’s biggest competitor of 2016 comes in the form of Marvel Comic’s Captain America: Civil War, the third installment of the Captain America franchise. Many of the characters are well known and have been previously featured in several other Marvel films. The Avengers must deal with shifts in alliances and the rising feud between Captain America and Iron Man.

Suicide Squad (August 5) – Suicide Squad changes the game by focusing on various super-villains, rather than superheroes, from the DC universe. Imprisoned villains like the Joker will be recruited by a secret government agency to partake in dangerous missions in exchange for shorter prison sentences. The massive excitement around this film is due to its deviation from the “good guy vs. bad guy” formula found in the typical superhero film.

Other films to look forward to include: X-Men: Apocalypse (May 27), Gambit (October 7), and Doctor Strange (November 6).
