The win against Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) on Saturday afternoon has made this the 16 consecutive win for men’s basketball. Although Benedictine fell behind in the first half, they came out strong in the second half to gain the win.
“CUW was picked to win our conference. They beat us in our gym twice last year. So this was a huge game for us. We started slow, but rallied together for a great team win,”said junior Adam Reynolds.
CUW lead by six points and the score continued to 10-2. CUW continued to outscore Benedictine as the first half progressed more, the score was 29-18. Benedictine soon was behind by only two points, 29-27, with only about five minutes left of the first half.
The first half ended with the score of 43-34. Benedictine and CUW rallied in points in the beginning of the second half until Benedictine scored four points in a row.
Benedictine eventually gained a short lead by 50-49, then tied at 63 and again at 65. From there, Benedictine gained a five point lead until CUW scored which lowered to a three point lead. But that did not stop Benedictine. In the end, Benedictine won by a nine point lead of 76-67.
“We came out extremely slow and thankfully our bench mob was able to keep us in the game. It takes a very good team to come back and win from down 10 at half. As long as we continue to play together we will be tough to beat. It was a great win,” said Luke Johnson.
The following conferences for men’s basketball will both be away from campus. One will be on January 20 at 7 p.m. against Dominican university and the other is on January 23 at 2 p.m. against Milwaukee School of Engineering.
