Benedictine’s men’s basketball won against Illinois Wesleyan University with the score of 88-86. This was the first game of this year’s season and second win in a row of two seasons.
“It was a great way to get a first win.especially because it was against a nationally ranked opponent at their home gym”, said Senior Luke Johnson.
In the beginning of the first half of the game, Benedictine had fallen behind their opponent by 15-8. Then points went back and forth between the two teams until Benedictine finally surpassed Illinois Wesleyan by 39-31.
Illinois Wesleyan attempted to gain up to Benedictine but more points were added for Benedictine. The score by the end of the first half was 46-42.
Benedictine started off with a good start with a two pointer made by Junior Tahron Harvey. Benedictine had the lead with Illinois close behind in the second half until they overpassed Benedictine by 73-65.
The teams both tied at 80 and again on 86. It was a three pointer miss from Senior John Dodson who rebounded to Johnson, who scored a two pointer with one second left in the game that sealed the win.
-“Illinois Wesleyan is a great program and a very tough place to play on the road. We went in and fought all game. There’s no quit in this team and I’m proud of the way my teammates played”, said Junior Adam Reynolds.
The next game for Benedictine’s men’s basketball will be after Tuesday’s game against Wheaton College at the Lisle Dan and Ada Rice Center. Next Wednesday’s game against Elmhurst College at 7 p.m. will be the game before the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) starts for Benedictine’s men’s basketball.
