Benedictine’s football team broke their six in a row streak when they lost to Lakeland College last Saturday afternoon.
“Today we played the toughest team in our conference and didn’t step up as a team to win. Didn’t want to send the seniors out like that, but memories are memories. Next year is the focus now”, said Junior Kevin Kreighbaum.
Lakeland started off with a seven point lead until around four minutes left, Benedictine tied with Lakeland, but Lakeland scored again with only 34 second left in the first quarter. Lakeland continued the lead in the second quarter with seven more points with 33 seconds left.
Lakeland added in 14 points for them in the third quarter. By then the score was 34-7. Benedictine fought back in the last quarter.
Junior Luke Ludolph with the assist of Sophomore Ryan Sample scored six points within 13 minutes of the last quarter. Another seven points were added to Lakeland then Sample scored.
In the final minutes of the last quarter, Lakeland scored the last six points for them then Senior Andrew Soulis scored the last two points for Benedictine. The final score was 46-22.
“Tough loss in difficult field conditions. We seemed to have more trouble with it then they did but that’s part of the game. We did however have a great season”, said head coach Jon Cooper.
This is the end of the season with the loss to Lakeland College. The overall record for Benedictine’s football team is 7-3.
