The Benedictine women’s volleyball team defeated conference opponent Concordia University Chicago in three straight sets to earn the team a win on Senior Night. This marked Benedictine’s fifth conference victory of the season.
“Tuesday night was a big win for us. It was our senior night and it’s always nice to send your seniors out with a win,” Head Coach Jennifer Wildes said, “Right now we are focused on getting better every day and playing our best ball of the season”.
Benedictine started the first set well advancing up by 2-0 which started a lead they would not relinquish until their 25-15 set victory. The second set was a bit more dramatic as the set saw five ties and two lead changes. Benedictine won the last set with 25-13. The strong finish saw Benedictine made 13 kills with only three errors in the final set.
“We came in knowing that we had to play our game,” Sophomore Emily Chitwood said, “We did an amazing job at not letting the ball drop. As a whole we took a step forward and put ourselves in a great spot for conference.”
Sophomore Erin Wiegand is in the lead with 12 kills while Junior Kara Epping made 11 kills and two block assists. Senior Beckie Whitmarsh followed with seven kills and five digs. Senior Kelcey Adams led Benedictine with 28 assists and also recorded five digs. Freshman Alyssa O’Boyle led the Benedictine defense with eight digs while Junior Caitlyn Martin recorded six digs of her own. Senior Ashley Karsten finished the conference match with making three aces and two block assists. The Benedictine’s women’s volleyball team will be up against Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) at 2 p.m. and Milwaukee School of Engineering at 8 p.m. at the Lisle Dan and Ada Rice Center on Friday October 30.
