Benedictine’s men’s soccer defeated Rockford University last Wednesday on Senior night. Benedictine outscored Rockford by 6-0.
“The win over Rockford was more importantly about honoring our seniors. Jonny, Ahmed, & Zorohn deserved a dominant victory and our team made sure that happened. The special part of it all is that each of our seniors played significant roles in getting the win. Ahmed made his first career start, he and Zorohn combined for the shutout, and Jonny notched a goal and assist”, said head coach Richard Nassif.
Freshmen Erik Stammer scored the first goal in the first five minutes of the first half of the conference. Two goals were followed by Sophomore Nick Kapetanos.
“It was great to get the win against Rockford because it was our senior night. The whole team showed a positive attitude and good energy to get the win for the seniors. There was also five different scores for team which shows the depth in our attack”, said Senior Jonny Lehman.
Sophomore Alex Unzueta the first goal of the season in the second half on the conference. Lehman added another point for Benedictine. The last goal was made by Junior Pedro Parra with the assist of Alexis Gutierrez and Lehman to seal the win.
“It is pretty neat to look back on the senior class and see how they have grown this program from a mid-table side into an annual conference and regional contender. Although things have not gone exactly as expected this year, we still have the opportunity to send our seniors off in style” , continues Nassif.
The next conference for men’s soccer will be against Dominican University on October 28 at 3 p.m.
