This past Saturday was the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new Goodwin Hall building on campus. Students, faculty, and members of the public attended the event, where there was an air of excitement and anticipation among those that were there to finally explore the new building. The grand opening began by remarks by University President Michael Brophy, who thanked everyone for being there on this special day for the University.

“This place will be many things, it will be a place of fellowship, friendship, learning, in this hall where we sit there will be many shared commitments,” Brophy said.

After President Brophy’s remarks, there was a blessing ritual that was done by the monks of the St. Procopius Abbey, which was their way of blessing Goodwin Hall. There was also a host of speakers that included Daniel Goodwin, the donator of the building, former University President Dr. William Carroll, and Student Senate President Sam Guerrero among others. They all expressed their excitement and gratitude that Goodwin Hall will finally be put in full use after months of construction.

Attendees that were at the opening of Goodwin Hall were excited to explore it, and see what it has to offer. Dean Leffelman, who’s part of the legal team that represents the University offered his thoughts on Goodwin Hall.

“It’s absolutely spectacular, I think it exceeded a lot of people’s expectations, it’s a fabulous day for the University,” Leffelman said. The student perspective of Goodwin Hall was just as upbeat.

“I think it’s amazing, it’s going to do wonders for the College of Business as a whole,” Junior Taylor Walthers said. “With the new auditorium the possibilities are endless when it comes to speakers and events that bring the community together, not just Benedictine but as Lisle as a whole.” Goodwin Hall includes study spaces for students, new classrooms, a Starbucks, and the aforementioned new auditorium.

Students in the College of Business and students of other majors will definitely have a lot of things to look forward to with this new building. Goodwin Hall will no doubt be a place that will enhance student’s learning for years to come, it will certainly be a big part of Benedictine’s future in the years ahead.
