Women’s volleyball lost to Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) this past weekend on Friday night. Benedictine won the first set then lost the next three sets.
“We fought a really hard match against CUW but we weren’t able to come out on top. We improved as a team and got better for upcoming matches that we have for the rest of the season!” said Ashley Karsten.
Early on in the first set there was a rally in points. Both of the teams tied at 20 then Benedictine broke it by adding two more points. CUW added a couple more points to make another tie at 23. Senior Beckie Whitmarsh made a kill and an error from CUW lead to the win for Benedictine in the first set.
Benedictine had the advantage in the beginning of the second set by 10-4. Both teams tied at 25 then CUW made two kills. CUW won by 27-25 in the second set.
CUW had the advantage in the third set and Benedictine could not gain a lead. The third set ended with 25-15. Fourteen kills were made by Benedictine in the last set but CUW won with a kill at 25-23.
“For the most part, I was really happy with how we battled. I think that we got better, even though it might not seem like it when you look at the final score. We had a really hard time getting kills, but defended really well”, said head coach Jennifer Wildes.
The next conference after women’s volleyball senior night will be against Marian University on October 23 at 7 p.m.
