Men’s soccer lost at their home conference last Wednesday night to Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW). The Eagles put up a tremendous fight but CUW ended up on top with a final score of 1-0.
“Credit CUW for taking us out of our possession style and making the game choppy. They capitalized on one of their few chances to score and it was able to hold up despite 14 corner kicks for us and three quality chances that we produced late in the game,” said head coach Richard Nassif. “Conference matches are never easy with the familiarity of the teams. We came out on the wrong side of yet another tight match but there is no doubt that our guys are on the brink of success and putting together our best soccer.”
CUW scored their first and only goal in the first half within 39 minutes of the conference that sealed them the win. No other goals were made by either team through the rest of the conference, expect a denied goal from sophomore Nick Kapetanos.
“It was a very close match and as a team we need to start the game with higher intensity. We also need to find a way to come back from a goal down to push the game to extra time,” said senior Jonny Lehman.
Sophomore goalkeeper Steve Mack stopped four goals from being made by the opponent. Benedictine will be facing off with Concordia University Chicago on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Lisle Sports Complex, then Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday off campus at 1 p.m.
