Benedictine’s football won their first conference this past weekend on Saturday afternoon to Wisconsin Lutheran College.
“We had a great week practice and we played how we practiced,” said Junior Omar Lopez.
Benedictine began in the lead during the first quarter with ten points which were made by Lopez with the assist of Sophomore Ryan Sample then Freshmen Jose Santiago. The Eagles fell behind through most of the second quarter until again Lopez with the assist of Sample advanced Benedictine in the lead with the score of 17-13.
“We played a great game against a great team. We knew we had to come out firing and continue to the whole game, and we did that. We were able to repeat our performance from last week, which was on the team mind going into this game. Just have to keep it rolling” said Senior Kevin Kreighbaum.
Junior Elijah Walker scored seven points with the assist of Sample in the third quarter. Six points were added to Benedictine in the last quarter with four minutes left of the conference, which was made by Junior Jesse Kilbourn with the assist of Sample.
“It was an important win for us against a good team. Great team effort and we are continuing to improve as we move into conference play”, said head coach Jon Cooper.
This coming Saturday on Homecoming day will be the next Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) for Benedictine’s football playing against Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) at 1 p.m.
