Benedictine’s football defeated Kalamazoo College during Family Weekend on Saturday night. They were advanced in the lead during the whole game.

“It was a great team effort as both offense and defense played well in all phases of the game.  There are still some things we need to tighten up moving forward but it was a definite step in the right direction.  It was great to see the team’s effort and attitude coming off two tough losses,” said head coach Jon Cooper.

Benedictine was in the lead throughout the first three quarters. Sophomore Ryan Sample scored the first touchdown within the first nine minutes of the game. Another six points during the first quarter were added for Benedictine by Freshman Joshua Williams.

Williams scored again in the second quarter which added six more points for Benedictine. Sophomore Derek Miles contributed by scoring seven points.

Junior Omar Lopez with the assist of Sample furthered Benedictine in the lead. Junior Jarrett Lecas made an interception which increased the score to 38-0. Kalamazoo scored before the third quarter ended.

Sophomore Joe Marella was the last to score for Benedictine and Kalamazoo scored again in the last quarter. The final score of the game was 45-10.

“We needed to make a statement going into conference. we came off two big losses and we were struggling as a unit. It was amazing knowing we shut down a good offense. Got to keep the Eagles soaring week by week,” said senior Kevin Kreighbaum.

The following football game will be held at the Lisle Sports Complex facing against Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
