“The win over Lake Forest was a tale of two halves. We were dominant in the first half holding Lake Forest to just three shots and creating multiple quality chances,” said head coach Richard Nassif. “The two first half goals both contained some tremendous individual effort with Erik Stammer scoring unassisted and Nick Kapetanos setting up Jonny Lehman for a tap in. The second half saw us lose our edge and we let Lake Forest feel like they were in the game.”

Benedictine’s men’s soccer won against Lake Forest on Wednesday night. Freshmen Erik Stammer scored the first goal in the first half that brought an early lead for Benedictine. Senior Jonny Lehman with the assist of sophomore Nick Kapetanos added a goal for Benedcitine in the first half.

“It was nice to get our first away win against Lake Forest on Wednesday. We had a strong first half which gave us a 2-0 lead. The second half was not a strong and we allowed Lake Forest back in the game. However, our team showed character late in the game to withstand Lake Forest attacks and hold onto the win,” said Lehman.

Lake Forest added a point in the second half. Kapetanos with the assist of Sophomore Christian Michalowski scored the goal that lead Benedictine to win the game. Another goal was scored for Lake Forest. The final score was 3-2.

“Credit Nick for getting the eventual winner on a laser strike but we spoiled two quality chances shortly after that would have made it 4-1 and crushed their spirit,” continued Nassif. “We need to see the full 90 minutes through with as much urgency as we started the match and I hope we have learned that lesson for good. For now though, it is time to move onto the next match which is this Saturday at the fifth ranked team in the nation – the University of Chicago.”

The goalkeeper, Sophomore Steve Mack, stopped five shots during the game. The next game, before the start of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), for Benedictine’s men’s soccer will be facing Wheaton College on September 23 at 7:00 p.m.
