The wrapping up of construction of the new business building and expansion of the Quad has impacted food life on campus. The Coal Ben is still temporarily closed while work on the Quad is being completed.
For Commuters this was not a major set back but it did affect resident students and all who enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and food of the Coal Ben.
“We have added a limited hot menu to the Kindlon Café featuring Chick FiL A and Connie’s pizza which offers a bit of variety and hot food to the students,” said Frank Budig, General Manager for Sodexo.
More improvements to the dining services were added to benefit students during the closure of the Coal Ben.
“We have extended the meal hours in the dining room as well, and will feature night on Saturday for dinner,” said Budig.
Sodexo has also added new variety to help to students by adding a sushi bar, yogurt shot bar, and a salsa bar. Chick-Fil-A and pizza were added to the Kindlon Café to add even more variety to students.
Some students were happy with the changes to the café, including its new layout, but others were not so keen.
“It’s not enough variety,” said junior David Wong. “It’s supposed to be good, but it’s pricey”.
Some students are not over keen on paying $3.50 for pizza or $4.00 for Chick-Fil-A. Dr. Ovid Wong mentioned that “I like Chik FiL A” but he has not tried the school’s version; when asked about the price he mentions it is about right.
With the opening of Starbucks next month in the new building, this year will be a challenging one for Sodexo.
“We plan to have the “Grand Re-Opening of the Quad/ Coal Ben” on Sept. 25,” said Marco Masini, Vice President of Student Life.
With new food options and a new school year things seem to be going well for Sodexo as it continues to try to bring new and exciting things to the campus.
