This summer was packed with controversial moments as well as breakups. The heat must make crazy because this was one of the worst summers for public figures in recent years. From Jared Fogle to Rachel Dolezal these are the stories that dominated the headlines.
Hulk Hogan Racist Rant
Eight years ago, pro wrestler and champion Hulk Hogan was angry about his daughter Brooke, who was 19 at the time boyfriends. He used the n-word multiple times and admitted, “I mean, I am a racist, to a point.” The act was recorded and then in July, the National Enquirer published it. The WWE was quick to act and he was removed from the WWE Hall of Fame. To try and save face his team claimed he resigned from the organization rather than admit to being fire; the WWE maintains otherwise. He also immediately apologize for his “unacceptable” words. Brooke tried to help by posting a message on her Facebook page, saying her dad has tender heart. Nothing work and he is still receiving backlash from people. Recently, Hulk told People Magazine that his comments were a result of his, “daily environment” growing up in Port Tampa, Florida.
Rachel Dolezal’s Racial Identity

Dolezal became president of the Spokane, Washington, chapter of the NAACP in 2014. It wasn’t until June when her parents contacted the media to allege that she had disguised herself as a black person for years. Larry her father, told The Washington Post, “Unfortunately, she is not ethnically by birth African American. She is our daughter by birth. Soon the media tuned into her darkened skin, braided curly hair, and claims that a black man was her father. Defending herself she went on Today, claiming to “identify as black.” Following the Scandal she had to resign from her chapter and was asked to step down from a police oversight commission and her teaching contract was not renew at her university.

The Not so Christian Josh Duggar

This story hit headlines when Josh’ family admitted that he’s molested young girls, including four of his sisters, when he was a teenager. “Twelve years ago, as a teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret,” he said in a statement to People. The story was fading until the Ashely Madison hack (which is whole other story) led to him confessing that he was unfaithful to wife and was viewing pornography while harboring a “secret addiction.” TLC cancel his family’s show 19 Kids and Counting after the revelation. Josh resigned from his job on the Family Research Council. Members of both his family and wife Anna have spoken out against him since the news broke. Just like the trend he checked into rehab in late August to work toward “wholeness and recovery.” Once the news broke many people questioned the family and their values.
