Silencing the Sugar

WebMD outlines several reasons why sugar is bad for us. First of all, sugar has been linked to many issues with the body. When sugar is sensed in the body, it causes glucose to be taken up from the blood. As a result, one will feel more tired after eating a lot of sugar. This is comparable to the crash from a sugar high those experience after consuming a lot of candy or soda.
Additionally, researchers believe that sugar causes issues with the brain’s membrane as well as with communication among the nervous system. This explains why some may have trouble thinking after consuming too much sugar. Also, sugar has been associated with interference with the skin’s ability to repair itself, leading to wrinkles earlier in life.
Sugar is not good for the human body; however, how can we cut out sugar when it is such a major part of the typical American diet? The answer lies in moderation. According to WebMD, it is best to keep sugar consumption to less than 10 teaspoons or forty grams per day. Therefore, one does not necessarily have to cut out one hundred percent of their sugar intake; they simply need to keep it to a minimum. See below for some easy ways to reduce sugar intake from

-Eat fresh fruit. This can help satisfy cravings for sweetness, as well as provide great vitamins and minerals.
-Use applesauce or bananas as a substitute for sugar, particularly when baking.
-Stay away from added sugars, such as granulated sugar, evaporated cane sugar, and artificial sweeteners. Even avoid honey and molasses; while these are better than regular sugar, they still contain a high amount of sugar and should be eaten in moderation.
-Use stevia Medical News Today says, when you’re really craving something sweet. Stevia has zero calories and contains vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, zinc, calcium, and other nutrients. It also does not affect blood glucose or insulin response.
