-Replace sugar with honey or agave nectar.
-Add cinnamon to assist in blood sugar regulation.
-Add cardamom for an extra boost of nutrients such as vitamin C, calcium, and magnesium.
-Add unsweetened cocoa powder for a boost of iron and magnesium.
-Use a lower fat milk, such as skim or 1%. Alternatively, use unsweetened almond or soymilk.
-When ordering coffee at a café, stick to the non-sugar syrups and nonfat milk.
-When making coffee, use a paper filter to lessen cholesterol intake. Unfiltered coffee contains a high amount of cholesterol.
-Drink coffee in moderation, as too much caffeine can have damaging effects to the body over time. Mayoclinic.com says that 200 to 300 milligrams of caffeine per day can be safely consumed.
Take these suggestions into consideration and drink coffee in moderation. Stay away from the artificial ingredients and you will get a better tasting drink as well as a healthier option!
