The men and women’s lacrosse teams played Olivet Nazarene University this past week. The men came out on top 14-7 while the women fell 19-12.
“This was a great team win on both sides of the ball for all 60 minutes,” said sophomore attacker Blake Keenan.
The men found themselves down 2-1 late in the first quarter, but would tie it up on a late goal. The Eagles would find their momentum after being down 4-3 in the second. They fired off consecutive goals to take the lead and never look back. Even though their lead was only two goals after the second quarter they would go on to score five times in the third quarter where Olivet scored only once.
Junior midfielder Andrew Zmijewski, freshmen attacker David Blanco, freshmen attacker Corbin Gett and junior midfielder Eric Orndorf all had key goals in the win against Olivet. Junior goalie Jeremy Voyda made five saves at the goal.
“Our team has realized that we have to slow down and examine the opposing defense before we start making moves on the offense. We were too frantic and out of control in the game against Carthage. In the game against Olivet, we calmed it down much more. Our team did not implode after we went down by a goal. We just remained calm and possessed the ball a lot more than our last game,” said freshman midfielder Dominic DePinto.
Currently, the men’s lacrosse team is 2-1. The eagles will face Augustana College this Wednesday on the road in Rock Island at 7 p.m.
“This was a great team win. We are excited for these upcoming road games and our spring break trip!” said junior defender Steve Sladek.
