Benedictine Commuter Services hosted an event to mark the start of Commuter Appreciation Month on March 4 in the Kindlon Atrium.
The Commuter Appreciation Lunch was hosted in the first week of March and offered students hamburgers, halal burgers, fries and shamrock themed cookies.
The lunch was an early St. Patrick’s Day themed lunch, aimed at getting the students into the Spring Break fever early, as the Benedictine University will be on break for St. Patrick’s Day itself.
Commuter Services coordinated the event and Sodexo, who kept the hot food stocked up throughout the lunch and prepared the food. At the same time as the lunch, Commuter Services also hosted a street sign company, who made free street signs for commuters with any name they picked.
“It was a nice change in my regular schedule I got to grab some lunch with my friends and just relax. Plus, the food was delicious and there was enough for seconds. I also appreciate that the halal option was offered,” said senior Junelly Gonzalez.
The Street Sign event and lunch was drawing in commuter students and even though it was not originally planned to have both events together, they both flowed together as the commuters could make a sign and grab a hot lunch at the same time while meeting fellow commuters.
The street signs were created by ‘Record-a-Hit Entertainment’ who had also made the street signs for the last Commuter Appreciation Month, as well as other events.
The event itself was a hosted to just over 200 students attending. Commuter Appreciation Month is a yearly event to show appreciation for Commuter Students on campus.
“It’s really great that the university is able to keep the commuters in mind and do something as great as the commuter lunch. It brings everyone together and it’s a great experience,” said senior Reem Ibrahim.
Commuter Assistants were also on hand to assist with serving the lunch and helping with the street signs. This event marked the start of Commuter Appreciation Month; over the next few weeks Commuter Services have more events lined up for Commuters.
A weekly Shamrock Scavenger hunt for random prizes is the next event, followed by the Commuter Breakfast after Spring Break. For more information on Commuter Services, visit the Office of Student Life in Krasa.
