The Men’s Volleyball team fell to Mount Saint Joseph in four sets 25-19, 19-22, 15-25, and 17-25 this past Friday night at the Rice Center.
The Eagles started off the match winning the first set. Their play was strong as they had 10 kills and three blocks on their way to their first set 25-19 win.
Benedictine continued to fight in the second set after an early lead at one point in the set, with a score of 10-8. MSJ would stop the rally in its tracks with three straight kills. The Eagles fought hard in the second set, making it close at the end. Unfortunately the Eagles could not get past the solid defense of MSJ as they fell in the second set.
From there, MSJ gained momentum and never looked back as they rolled to a 25-15 victory in the third set.
Benedictine attempted to try and rally a win in the fourth set, but MSJ proved to be too much as their offense pushed to a 25-17 win.
“It was a fun match to play. We came out hot in the first game, but lost control of the match after that. Our focus now is isolating the things we can improve on, and becoming a better team in the future. We want to work on closing strong, future matches,” said freshman outside hitter Eric Tarnow.
The eagles played Fontbonne University Saturday morning and was able to add a win to their record.
“Men’s volleyball really worked hard on the court. The momentum from the team players was felt by all in the crowd. Despite their lost, they still played well and was a fun set to watch,” said senior Mike Krueger.
The Eagles hope to continue this winning streak this Friday when they play Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 2 p.m. in the Rice Center.
