Men’s Lacrosse at Benedictine University opened up their season at home this past Saturday with a win against Calvin College.

“I think this was a great way to start a season and see what our team has to offer this year. We saw the skill and the level that is expected by our players. The win will propel us onto next weekend and the rest of the season,” said captain and junior midfielder Rudy Berg.

Freshman attacker Corbin Gett started Benedictine off strong on the scoreboard within the opening minutes of the game. Sophomore midfielder Trevor Manzke finished a feed from Gett and was able to score right after. With ten minutes left in the first quarter, Calvin scored, but was unsuccessful in scoring again throughout the game. Junior midfielder Eric Orndorf blocked a goal in a man-up situation, which led to 18 goals made by Benedictine. At the end of the first half, Benedictine led 13-1.

Throughout the second half, Benedictine held Calvin in their scoring efforts. Gett scored four times and had six assists along with four groundballs. Orndorf also scored four times as well.

“Stellar performance on both ends of the ball. We are looking forward to playing Carthage at home this Saturday!” said junior goalie Jeff Smitheram.

Benedictine is looking forward to hosting Carthage College next Saturday at home in the Lisle Sports complex at 11 a.m.

“This was a great team win. We are excited to be at home again this upcoming weekend. Come cheer on your eagles as we face Carthage at home!” said junior defender Steve Sladek.
