The Benedictine men’s and women’s Cross Country team participated in the Eagle invite this past weekend held at St. James Farm in Warrenville, IL.
The men’s team placed ninth out of 15 teams and the women placed eighth out of 14 teams. Both teams had a hand full of runners place in the top 60. The top performers from both teams were freshman Joe Chavez, placing 32nd with a time of 27:29.99 and Tatiana Arturo, placing 38th with a time of 24:38.68.
The men’s runners who finished in the top 60 for both teams were senior Timmy Bugajsky, freshman TJ Weaver, senior Evan Jenkins and junior Chris Dziagwa. Women runners who finished in the top 60 are junior Rachel Scianna, sophomore Lizzie Deely and sophomore Hayley Reagin.
“Unfortunately we were short a couple of our top runners for the home meet, but a lot of our girls really stepped up and made a statement. There were PR’s (personal records) all around and it was really awesome to see Hayley and Sabina have such an outstanding race. I’m extremely proud of my teammates and can’t wait to see what is to come as the season approaches conference,” said junior Sherry Gaiser.
When asked about the event, Bugajsky had high praise of his teammates and their performance,
“It was great to have our home meet at this time of the season. We have been putting in a lot of hard work since the beginning of August and it paid off at the race. We had 10 people run their personal bests. It was exciting to see the whole team work together and achieve their best performance, especially from senior Mark Martinez,” said Bugajsky.
Head cross-country coach Molly Remley believed that both her men and women teams ran well won the event.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams will be back in action October 18 for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh AAE invitational in Winneconne, Wisconsin. They look to continue the strong performances and will continue striving for the best.
