We are all familiar with the epic television series Boy Meets World. The original 1990s sitcom had an audience of all ages, and even today is considered one of the most loved shows that television has ever aired. This unique show began with a young adolescent cast and as the years went on, we grew up with them. Unfortunately, the beloved journey of Cory, Topanga and Shawn came to an end in early 2000.
Now, Disney has made a mission to bring back those same life lessons through not just a different cast, but also the children of Cory and Topanga. When this news came out to the public, people all around the country didn’t hesitate to share their excitement. The teenagers who grew up with Boy Meets World are now young adults possibly with their own children and now they have the chance to share those same life lessons they learned with their children of this generation. Disney launched their new generation of Boy Meets World as Girl Meets World where Cory and Topanga’s daughter Riley goes through experiences just as her parents did as young teenagers. With the help of her best friend Maya, the both start their journey of becoming independent and encountering the world.
There are a few similarities between the two shows that are clearly seen. Just as Cory had a mischievous best friend at his side named Shawn, Riley also has a friend that gets her into trouble named Maya. The few episodes that have aired it is usually Maya that starts the problems; for example, the episode when Maya steals a locket. Another similarity between the two is the nerdy character that is in class in both the shows. In Boy Meets World, it’s the know it all character of Minkus. Girl Meets World has a new generation kind of nerd named Farkle. Both have crushes on the leading female of the shows also. And to the audience surprise, Farkle is the son of Minkus as we learned in a recent episode, bringing back the familiar Minkus competition.
The first episode of Girl Meets World racked in millions of viewers and was a huge hit over the nation. The most anticipated part of the premiere was seeing Cory and Topanga back in action and from the looks, the audience was not disappointed. The flash backs back to Boy Meets World tied the whole episode together with introducing Riley into the show. The best part of the show was the end. We were able to see Mr. Feeney again! Girl Meets World has become of the most watched Disney channel shows today. I can’t wait to see what other old characters they decide to bring to Girl Meets World in future episodes.
