The women’s cross-country team of Benedictine opened their season by placing 7th at the Elmhurst College Early Bird Invitation. Captain, senior Julie Carroll led the team by placing 37th overall with a 17:11:9 time. Newcomer, Tatiana Arturo placed 41th overall with a 17:19:5 time.
“The women ran a great team race and were able to find each other out on the course, working together very well,” said Coach Molly Remley. “This was the strongest early season team performance we’ve had and it is a testament to the work they put in over the summer.”
The rest of the top 7 was rounded out by Rachel Scianna, Sherry Gaiser, Emma Berndt, Lizzie Deely, and Sabina Bukowska. Scianna, Gaiser, Berndt, and Jasy Jones all set personal records at the Elmhurst invitational held on August 29th.
“It was very hot and humid, but happy to see my teammates still run a great first race. It was especially exciting seeing our girls team break our fifth man record since 2009, which is having our top five runners come in faster than we have in the past!” said Gaiser.
The Eagles are back in action Friday, September 5th at the Aurora Spartan Classic at 5 p.m.
