Tournament Opens Women’s Volleyball Season

This past weekend the women’s volleyball team opened their season with the Augustana College Viking Classic tournament.

The weekend tournament ended with the lady eagles coming out with a one and three record. The lady eagles lost to Augustana College in three sets, Hamline University in three sets and University of Wisconsin River Falls in 5 sets. The lady eagles were able to pull out a win against Knox College in 3 sets.

Stand out players for the lady eagles over the weekend were Junior Beckie Whitmarsh, Sophomore Keriann Groen, Senior Abby Screnok and Senior Andraia Leja. Whitmarsh compiled a weekend total of 21 kills and 11 digs. Groen had a weekend total of 13 kills and four blocks. Screnok had a great weekend tallying 61 assists, 17 digs, four kills and two aces.

“The first weekend we learned a lot about playing together. We had some great moments that really brought us together as a team. We are looking forward to future matches.” Said Screnok.

Other contributing players were Freshmen Erin Wiegand, freshmen Vanessa Possidoni, sophomore Caitlyn Martin, senior Kristie Naylon, and junior Ashley Karsten.

Even after a tough weekend the lady eagles are looking forward to getting back out onto the court. The team will be back in action come September 3rd when they battle Elmhurst College in search of another win.
