Women’s lacrosse played against Olivet College on Wednesday. After two high-scoring halves, Benedictine was unable to score more goals than their opponents.
The first half started with Olivet scoring four consecutive goals before Benedictine was able to get on the scoreboard. They finally did score from Hannah Payne with 12 minutes left in the first half. Olivet scored another goal with seven minutes left in the half. Then, Benedictine was able to score two more goals from Gabby Rowe and Jackie Andrews, who scored within the last few seconds of the half. This gave Olivet a two-point lead going into halftime, 5-3.
Taylor Pugliese opened the second half with a goal for her team two minutes into play. Olivet answered back with a goal to maintain their two-point lead. Their two-point lead disappeared when Becca Gullett and Payne scored consecutively for Benedictine. Olivet was determined to keep the lead, though, and scored again with nine minutes left in the game. Benedictine was equally determined to take the lead and scored another goal from Jessica McGinnus with just under four minutes left to play.
With time running out, Benedictine struggled to find their last goal to win the game. Unfortunately, Olivet scored once again with a minute and a half left to play. Benedictine was not able to tie the game back up and was sent to the sidelines defeated.
This game is the sixth game in a row that the Benedictine women’s lacrosse team has lost. They are 0-2 in Conference and have only won one game so far in their regular season. There are still eight games left to play starting with two home games on Tuesday and Thursday against Augustana College and Carthage College.
