Benedictine’s women’s lacrosse team played two games last week against Robert Morris University and Linfield College and lost both games, brining their losing streak up to five games.
Their first game was played at home on Tuesday against Robert Morris University. The final score came out to 17-2 in favor of the visiting team. The first half of the game was completely dominated by Robert Morris who scored 13 goals in the 30- minute time frame. Benedictine was not able to score any goals during the first half.
The second half started out looking bleak for Benedictine as Robert Morris tallied two more goals before Benedictine finally scored their first point with eight and a half minutes left in the game. Robert Morris answered Benedictine’s goal with two more of their own to reach their finishing total of 17. Benedictine’s Kristina Fernandez scored the final goal of the game for her team with 10 seconds left before the final buzzer.
Benedictine played their second game at home on Friday against Linfield. This time, Benedictine came out strong and scored the first goal of the game in the first minute of play, and the goal came from Gabby Rowe. The first half turned out to be a battle from start to finish. Benedictine never let go of their lead, but Linfield tied the score four times before halftime. Benedictine finished with a two-point lead, 8-6.
The second half turned out to be an even harder battle than the first half. Benedictine was able to maintain their lead until the halfway point of the half. Then, Linfield scored three goals in under a minute, which gave them momentum enough to run off with the lead. Benedictine fought hard and tied the game with just one-minute left to play. Unfortunately, Linfield scored again with 10 seconds left in the game and won by a score of 15-14.
