If you’re a Disney junkie like me, then you’ve seen practically every movie that Disney and Pixar has ever come out with, and “Monsters Inc.” is no exception. When this movie came out in 2001, I never suspected that it would become such a big hit. Of course, I was only seven at the time and wanted to watch any animated movie that came out. Obviously, I immediately fell in love with it. Everyone eventually saw this movie, and all anyone could ever talk about was how cute Boo was or how funny Mike Wazowski was and how awesome of a scarer Sulley was. Well, all of that hasn’t changed, but now we finally have a much-awaited sequel to this evergreen movie.
Twelve years after the first one hit the theaters, “Monsters University” was finally released. Now when I first found out this movie was going to come out, I’m not going to lie; I questioned how they could possibly top such an amazing, family friendly, action-packed movie with such a heartwarming story? I believed there was no way that they could make anything as good as the first one, and that by watching it, I would ruin my love for the first one. But of course, I never should have doubted the masterminds behind Pixar. This movie surpassed my expectations on so many levels. It made me smile most of the time, it made me laugh until it hurt, and it even made me cry. This movie has everything that you would ever want in a movie.
I was also a bit doubtful of the plot of the story; what does them going to college have anything to do with their scaring jobs and lives? Well, this movie was more of a prequel than a sequel. It highlighted the lives of the monsters well before they became “scarers.” It showed the struggles they went through to fit in, the fun times they had in university, and how in the end, hard work is really all you need to succeed.
Every single one of us can relate to this movie. We know what it’s like to go to college, to experience new things, and to learn the importance of being true to ourselves the whole way through. This movie will really make you smile and reflect on your own life, values, goals and achievements. I would honestly say this was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time and would highly recommend it to anyone who is in need of some inspiration. Happy Watching!
