Men’s Lacrosse break their winning streak

by Bill Toohey

The BenU Eagles men’s lacrosse team was in action this past Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the Eagles saw their two game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Falcons from Concordia-Wisconsin, by the score of 14-1.

The Falcons jumped on the board right away, but the Eagles quickly responded from an unassisted goal by Connor Mersch. The Eagles were then held scoreless for the rest of the game. Jeff Smitheram stopped 18 shots, as Concordia Wisconsin outshot BenU 39-18. The Eagles unfortunately lost the second game this weekend on Sunday against Aurora University, 18-2.

The Spartans scored the first eight goals of the contest, before the Eagles’ Robert Abbott scored from Rudy Berg’s great assist with eight minutes left in the first half of play.

The Spartans scored the game’s next ten goals before another goal from Robert Abbott found the back of the net with just less than eleven minutes remaining in the game. Jeff Smitheram stopped 17 of Aurora’s 56 total shots.

The Eagles look to bounce back from this weekend’s setbacks when they take on the Vikings of Augustana right here at the Sports Complex this Wednesday night at 7pm. Come support the Eagles, as they only have two more home games remaining in their inaugural season here at Benedictine!
