Phillip Phillips visited Benedictine University for BenBash on Saturday, April 13th.
Attendees of the concert began lining up at the Rice Center doors at 4:00 p.m., and Phillips made his anticipated appearance at 9:00 p.m.
The opening act was a performer by the name of Lauren Shera at 8:00 p.m. After Shera finished preforming, the whole gym fell silent. With a flash of lights and a sudden uproar in the crowd, Phillip Phillips took the stage.
“The Rice Center was packed, and every single person was into Phillip Phillips,” stated Erik Rickert, senior at Benedictine University and attendee of the concert. According to Deb Smith, Director of Benedictine University Events, there were 2,700 people who attended the concert.
Phillip Phillips has been performing in front of thousands of people, but he was questioned about any moments he has had to sit back and take in his accomplishments thus far.
“Last night, I had some quiet time in the dressing room in the bottom of the building, and it was really quiet, and nobody was coming through, and I kinda relaxed for a minute like wow, ya know, I actually just played in front of 3,000 people that wanted to come to the show. It was awesome,” explained Phillip Phillips.
As the concert ended, Phillip Phillips closed with his famous song, “Home.” When talking with Phillip Phillips prior to the concert, he explained how his life completely changed when he was announced the winner of Season 11 on American Idol.
“Yeah it was very interesting. It was a lot more than I thought it was gonna be because I never watched the show, and it looked easy on TV on the episode that I did watch, and it was a lot of work. I mean, you definitely work for what you gotta do. It was a little stressful at times, but it was a good experience,” said Phillip Phillips about his experience on American Idol.
Through all the fame and limelight, Phillip Phillips has still remembered to remain humble.
“Life is too short to be competitive and cocky. Just learn as much as you can from everybody,” explained Phillip Phillips.
Phillip Phillips is currently on the College Tour, visiting and performing at colleges all over the country.
“I just wanted to reach out to people my age and reach that fan base and friendship for years to come. I’m hoping that’s happening,” said Phillip Phillips about his hope for being on the College Tour.
