Eagles Fall to North Central: Losing streak reaches six games

by Tom Brown, Sports Editor

The Benedictine University women’s lacrosse team was shut out by North Central College 15-0 Tuesday night in Naperville.

The Cardinals got off to a quick start, scoring five goals in the game’s first ten minutes as they ultimately went up 11-0 by halftime as they outshot the Eagles 19-3.

The second half was much of the same as the Eagles managed only one shot and let in another four goals for the Cardinals who took the 15-9 victory.

Kristina Fernandez said that although the team got shut-out this loss helped them grow as a unit. “We have to communicate,” Fernandez said. “We have to be louder than the other team; a lot of times on offense, we would try and force a shot and we wouldn’t be patient enough.” Tricia Baluyut was stopped during six shots in the loss for the Eagles.

With the loss, the Eagles are now 1-7 on the season and have lost six consecutive games, dating back to March 12.

“We are still learning,” said Fernandez. “We now know that we have to play a full 60 minutes if we want to compete so this knowledge should only help us going forward.”

The Eagles’ next chance to put that knowledge on display will be Tuesday, April 16 when they host rival Aurora University at 7:00 p.m. at the Sports Complex.
