Eagles Beat up on Defiance

The BenU Eagles absolutely pummeled Defiance College this past Sunday, 21-3. They took an 11-1 lead into halftime. Additionally, they scored the game’s first eight goals, and a 4-0 lead after the first quarter.

Defiance was anything but defiant in the second half as the Eagles continued the rampage, behind Connor Mersch and his five fourth quarter goals and two assists. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles were able to score three more times.

The stats throughout this game say it all. The Eagles outshot Defiance 58-23, won 19 face-offs and scooped up 52 groundballs. Connor Mersch was the clear game MVP as he had six goals, along with five assists and winning seven crucial face-offs.

Other contributors to the victory were Andrew Zmijewski, who scored five times and Tyler Buschow, who scored three times. Zachary MacLachlan had a goal and four assists. Once again, Jeff Smitheram came up huge for the Eagles, as he was able to stop 12 goals.

The Eagles (6-6, 4-2) look to continue their winning ways when they host our rivals, Aurora, this Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
